ART & EVENTS:
'PLAY GAMES, MAKE FRIENDS, DEFEAT EVIL.'
Dragons, Orcs, and Wizards are massing to invade Las Vegas as Neoncon comes back to the city of sin. Now celebrating its third year Neoncon comes to The Palace Station Hotel and Casino this Nov. 5th-8th. This show brings such classic games as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and Warhammer 40Kto a host of fans from across the western United States region.
Dungeon Masters, Gamers, and Vendors will be coming from the west coast to as far as the U.K. to join in the fun of gaming, partying, and shopping, with a little bit of learning thrown in, "just for fun". As, Neoncon brings the "academic experience" to the gaming table with Games U, a peer on peer learning experience; bringing gaming fans eye to eye with professional game designers and other gamers seeking to break into the field of gaming, as well as other fields surrounding the industry.
Sponsored by VegasGamers.org, Neoncon holds a monthly game day every fourth Saturday at the Clark County Library at 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. It is open to the public and all games are welcome from RPG’s (Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Star Wars, etc.), Miniatures (D&D minis and Star Wars Minis, Warhammer 40K, Monsterpocalypse, etc.), to Board Games like (Shogun, Munchkin, Bang, etc.). They even encourage people to bring their own games, or come to meet people, and recruit players for their own games.
Despite a sluggish economy Neoncon is expecting more games, and more exhibitors this year with a vendors room that is open to the public, a nightclub experience (Vampire the Requiem) straight off the silver screen, (think True Blood, or Blade) and more RPG’s than you can swing a vorpal sword at, some of which will run for a full twenty-four hours. There are also three tournaments running through the weekend, with various prizes going to the winners.
At Neoncon, gamers have the opportunity to present to, and interact with professional game creators whose names they may have only read in a player’s manual. Many of the guest speakers are noted fantasy authors as well as game creators. With such notable storylines and campaigns being explored at Neoncon, adventures come to life, straight from the pages of some of the author’s most exciting stories. Erik Mona of Paizo Publishing is slated as the Keynote Speaker, and Josh Frost, Paizo’s Event Manager, and a freelance writer, will also be in attendance.
Others speakers include: Randall Bills, who assisted in writing and crafting the original BattleTech-Warrior community campaigns, Marcelo Figueroa, who is referred to as the "someone you need to know" in hobby games, as he has worked in every aspect of the industry. Still others have had their work nominated, or have themselves been nominated for ENnie Awards such as, Jess Hartley, Leonard Balsera, Ed Healy, and, Ryan Macklin.
Neoncon’s mantra is "PLAY GAMES. MAKE FRIENDS. DEFEAT EVIL,." but when put to one word it comes down to "FUN", for all ages, genders, and segments of society.
